Derek Ruscin

Derek Ruscin joined the Rebel air staff in January of 2009. He has been the co-host of "The Morning Rush" on ESPN sports radio 96.3 since August of 2008.

Derek came to the Rebel after spending 5 years doing just about everything at KNWA-TV in Fayetteville, for the last two years a member of the sports team. Derek Ruscin began his career at the age of 16 doing basketball play by play for Harding Academy in his hometown of Searcy. He has also worked calling games for Harding University as well. In all, he has worked in the broadcasting industry for more than 10 years.

Derek is a huge Razorback fan, getting the chance to go to a bunch of football and basketball games as a kid, learning to hate the Texas Longhorns at an early age. When Derek ins't working, you can find him at home watching his favorite tv shows or sports of some kind, or out and about discovering parts of Arkansas he hasn't seen before.

I grew up on Route 66, actually Yukon, Oklahoma. With OKC as my backyard, I learned how to how to get my kicks early.
I thought radio would be a cool job after my uncle took me to see the movie FM, then soon after I saw the T.V. Show “WKRP”, I knew what I wanted to do. That, and with a love for comedy, I set out to make my mark.

I interned for WKY, then KXXY, also did some stand-up at a club called Jokers, until they found out I was underage, and was banned. I haven't been back. Maybe one day I will.

During a stint in the Army, I met the love of my life at Fort Chaffee. One look from those placid green eyes, I knew that Fort Smith was now my home. At the time of this writing that was eighteen years ago, and we've been together ever since. Together, we have five children and three grandchildren.
My hobbies include writing and audio and video production. I'm one third of the comedy group, Ded Heir (google us, we need the $$) and founder of the Idiocy Coalition.

Long story short, I've been 'up and down the dial' here and loving every minute of it.
